Metal roofs continue to make up an increasing percentage of the U.S. market share and provide a natural fit with solar for a number of reasons. Metal roofs have a lifespan that will often exceed that of the solar modules. In practical terms, this can mean that even a metal roof that has been in place for some time could be a suitable candidate for an array. This is not always the case with other roof types and replacing a roof will add significant cost to a project. Many of the current generation of metal roofs also feature highly reflective paint mixtures that can reduce the temperature of the roof itself, increasing solar module efficiency.
