Wet (or Flooded) batteries are the most commonly used battery type for residential scale pv applications. The most common type of wet batteries are the lead-acid types which consists of lead oxide, plates and a liquid electrolyte solution containing water and sulfuric acid. Water is lost when the battery vents waste gases, so it must be refilled periodically through the removable caps. They are designed to be deep-cycled, however they will last longer if they are used above 50% charge level. The battery loses the capacity at cold ambient temperature, whereas higher temperatures shorten the battery life.
