Square D
Square D is an American manufacturer of equipment used to control and distribute electric power headquartered in Palatine, Illinois. First formed in 1903 as the McBride Manufacturing Company, they subsequently changed their name to the Detroit Fuse and Manufacturing Company with their logo being a "D" (for Detroit) enclosed in a square. In 1991, they were purchased by the French company Schneider Electric and they continue to sell into the commercial, industrial, and residential markets.
As a global specialist in energy management with operations in more than 100 countries, Schneider Electric offers integrated solutions across multiple market segments, including leadership positions in energy and infrastructure, industrial processes, building automation, and data centers/networks, as well as a broad presence in residential applications. Focused on making energy safe, reliable, efficient, productive and green, the company’s 114,000 employees achieved sales of more than $23 billion in 2008.
In the United States, Schneider Electric products and solutions also include the follow brands: Square D, APC, Pelco, Juno Lighting Group and Xantrex. Under the brand name Square D, 3/4-inch circuit breakers have been a true success. Square D has an overwhelming market share in the residential market.
Another well-known Square D product line is the Powerlink circuit breaker, created for lighting control, sold to bigger buildings/skyscrapers.
